St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team played with tremendous heart Saturday afternoon but came up short in a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference loss to York College of Pennsylvania.

How It Happened

  • York, who received votes in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division III Coaches Poll, scored all three goals off penalty corners.
  • The Spartans owned a 1-0 halftime lead after junior midfielder Ali Posey (Airville, Pa./Red Lion) placed a high shot into the top left corner following the insert by senior Alexa Taylor (York, Pa./Red Lion) at 9:13.
  • St. Mary's kept York off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half as junior goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) notched three saves and junior midfielder Sophie Michel (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added a defensive save.
  • Taylor picked up an unassisted goal at 41:27 after putting back the rebound of a Posey shot.
  • Posey and Taylor combined once again for York's third and final goal. Taylor inserted the ball to the top of the 16-yard circle and Posey ripped a rocket of a shot into the lower right corner.

For the Seahawks (3-10, 1-3 CAC)

  • Scorers: None.
  • Goalkeeper: Thompson (7 saves, 3 goals allowed, 70:00).
  • Defensive Save: Michel (1).
  • St. Mary's finished the game with 14 shots (six on goal) and five penalty corners.

For York (11-3, 3-1 CAC)

  • Scorers: Posey (2 goals); Taylor (1 goal, 2 assist).
  • Goalkeeper: Sophomore Eve Hauptle (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) (5 saves, 0 goals allowed, 70:00).
  • Defensive Save: Sophomore Jennifer Morrissette (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) (1).
  • York recorded 20 shots (11 on goal) and 15 corners.

Up Next for the Seahawks

  • 10/18 at Wesley College (5-12, 1-2 CAC) – 7:00 p.m. (CAC contest)
  • Tuesday night's matchup has CAC Tournament implications as the winner will most likely grab one of the five playoff spots. St. Mary's holds a 10-4 record over the Wolverines, including winning the last two meetings.
