Cassady Wins on First Day of Yellow Jacket Invitational

Richmond, Va. – Senior captain Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall) notched the victory in the 50 freestyle Friday night at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College. The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team are currently sixth with 208 points, ahead of Bridgewater (Va.) College (91 pts.).

How It Happened

  • Cassady claimed top honors in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.65 while senior Reed Rhoads (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished eighth in 22.35 followed by sophomore Nate Donoghue (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) in ninth (22.38).
  • The foursome of Rhoads, Donoghue, first-year Lucas Wheal (Austin, Texas/Westlake), and Cassady posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.69.
  • St. Mary's finished in a tie for sixth-place with former Capital Athletic Conference foe, Marymount (Va.) University, in the 400 medley relay to wrap up the night. Juniors Peter Orban (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) and Andrew March (Westminster, Md./Westminster), Wheal, and Cassady closed out the night with a time of 3:39.62.
