Bartholomew and Collie Record Five Points in Victory Over Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - Kate Bartholomew and Ali Collie recorded five points each in a 16-11 victory over the Roanoke College Maroons (6-3) on Saturday (Mar. 23) afternoon. The No. 25 St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team improved to 6-3 with the victory.

How It Happened

  • Both squads exchanged goals in the first 15 minutes of action and Roanoke held a slim 5-4 advantage. Jodi Credit, Lucy Gussio, Sydni Thacker, and Bartholomew accounted for the Seahawks first four scores. Next, back-to-back goals from Gussio and Susanna Schmidt gave St. Mary's College a 6-5 lead with 11:22 left in the first half.

  • Roanoke evened the game at seven a piece with 5:49 remaining in the half, but the Seahawks finished strong with goals from Bartholomew and Jayne Barkman to take a 9-7 lead into halftime.

  • Roanoke recorded the first goal of the second half and trimmed the Seahawk lead to one. However, St. Mary's College answered with four unanswered goals for a 13-8 advantage. Gussio, Collie (2), and Thacker found the back of the cage during the scoring burst. Roanoke responded with three-straight goals, but the Seahawks crushed any hopes of a comeback with a three-goal run to end the game. Thacker, Collie, and Bartholomew accounted for the three goals to secure the victory.

  • As mentioned, Bartholomew and Collie led the Seahawks on the offensive end with five points each. Gussio and Thacker followed with four points each.

  • On the defensive end, Emma Brown collected a team-best three ground balls and Stephanie Heffron had a team-high two caused turnovers. In goal, Brown collected five saves.
