Battle of the Birds: Seahawks Drop to Sea Gulls

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team (2-9, 0-3 CAC) played a competitive match against Salisbury University (7-2-2, 3-0 CAC) this afternoon which ended in a tough loss of 4-0.

How it Happened

  • The first half of the match ended in a draw at 0-0 despite both teams coming close to scoring. Goalkeeper, Audra Haines had four crucial saves in the first half to keep the Seahawks in the game. The Seahawks were able to get four shots off in the first half compared to the Sea Gulls' seven.

  • In the second half, Salisbury found the back of the net in the 64th minute after a scramble right in front of the cage off of a corner kick. Gabby Manning and Megan Tazza tallied two shots this evening. During the 77th minute, the Sea Gulls scored a goal that was just out of Haines' reach making the score 2-0.

  • Kaitlyn Steigner, Lauren Giron, and Emmey German all had one shot apiece this afternoon. With about ten minutes left in regulation time, Salisbury scored two more goals making the final score 4-0. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Out of the seven shooters from this afternoon, Steigner has the highest shots on goal percentage, which currently sits at 83%.

  •  German maintains her position as the top shooter on the team with 13 total shots thus far into the season. Tazza is right behind German with eleven shots.
