COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its 2018 fall list of CSCAA Scholar All-America women's swimming teams on Tuesday. St. Mary's College of Maryland was one of 713 teams, spread across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCA, honored by the coaches' organization. This is the Seahawks fifth team scholar award under third-year head coach Casey Brandt.
To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the Fall Semester and maintain a roster of 12 or more student-athletes.
"A strong focus on academics has always been part of our team culture and I'm proud that we continue to maintain high academic standards," Brandt said. "I'm also happy that the CSCAA provides recognition for schools that not only have strong athletes, but strong students as well."
The Seahawks notched a 3.24 team grade point average during the 2018 Fall Semester. Additionally, St. Mary's was one of the five women's swim teams that received the honor in the Capital Athletic Conference (Frostburg St., Mary Washington, Salisbury, York) and one of 171 women's swim teams to receive the honor in NCAA Division III.
