Seahawks Split Saturday Home Tri-Match

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team (4-7,0-0) continued their season against Washington College (4-6, 0-0) and the Hood College Blazers (0-10, 0-0) Saturday afternoon (Sept. 14) at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletic and Recreation Center Arena. The Seahawks split their matches, falling to Washington College 3-0 and defeating Hood College 3-1.

How It Happened

  • Washington College began its three set sweep by winning the first with a score of 25-22. 

  • The second set saw the two teams trade points until it came to 16-15 in favor of Washington College. From there the Shorewomen went on a five point run to bring it to 21-15 and they would not look back, winning the set 25-19.

  • St. Mary's College led the third set 24-17 before Washington College won eight straight points to bring it to an even 24-24. After trading points, the Shorewomen took the set 28-26 and in doing so would close out the match.

Inside the Box Score 

  • Sophomore Chanel Lucas led the Seahawks in kills as she collected 12 through the three set match. 

  • Nicole Kreutzinger recorded ten digs which would put her as the top Seahawk in that category for the match. 

St. Mary's College - 3, Hood College - 1

How It Happened 

  • The Seahawks came out flat and dropped the first set against the Blazers with a final score of 25-21.

  • The second set saw the two teams all tied up at 13-13 before the Seahawks pulled away to make it 19-15. St. Mary's College took three of the next four points and did not look back after winning the second set 25-18. 

  • The two traded points in the third set to bring the score to 14-14. Katie Agate and Erin Krauss recorded the next two kills and eventually the Seahawks would close out the set 25-19.

  • St. Mary's College best set of the day came in the fourth against Hood College as they took an early lead and won the set in convincing fashion with a score of 25-12.
