Stevenson Sets School Record at Don Cathcart Invitational

Salisbury, Md. – First-year Lindsey Stevenson (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) collected her second straight top-20 finish in record-setting fashion Saturday morning as Stevenson paced the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the 29th Annual Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.

The Basics:

  • Place – 6th of 11
  • Location – Winter Place Park – Salisbury, Md.

St. Mary's Top 5 Finishers:

  • St. Mary's bested Christopher Newport University, who ranks seventh in the South/Southeast region, by eight points for sixth place.
  • Stevenson posted a 13th-place finish with a time of 22:57.13, shattering the old mark of 23:34 set by Shannon Rafferty in 2010 at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Opener.
  • Junior captain Marisa McCormick (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) also had an outstanding run for the Seahawks as McCormick crossed the finish line in 23:25.10 for 19th overall.
  • Sophomore Sarah Jeffrey (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) came in at 25:17.69, which was good enough to put her at 44th overall.
  • Junior Lindsey Power (Glen Arm, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Caitlyn Sarudy (Hereford, Md./Hereford) rounded out the Top 5 Seahawk runners at 54th (26:30.47) and 61st (26:57.58), respectively.

Other Top Performers:

  • Division II East Stroudsburg University, who's ranked seventh in the Atlantic region, claimed the team and individual titles as Kaylyn West captured the 6K race in 21:39.47.
  • Ranking seventh in the Mideast region, Salisbury finished second with six runners in the Top 20.
  • Bridgewater (Va.) College placed third behind Calista Ariel's eighth-place finish.

Up Next for the Seahawks

  • The Seahawks will travel to Goucher College in Towson, Maryland for the Goucher Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 7. Start time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on the campus of Goucher.
