Since arriving at St. Mary's College of Maryland in December of 1999, William 'Jim' Cranmer has earned three promotions. Cranmer was named the Associate Director of Athletics & Recreation for Internal Operations in November 2017 following his promotion to Assistant Director of Athletics & Recreation for Operations and Compliance in January 2013. He picked up compliance coordinator duties for the entire athletic department during the 2003-04 academic year.

Cranmer oversees the operations of athletic communications and sports medicine as well as supervising men's lacrosse. He also coordinates travel for 21 varsity sports and manages all gameday operations. In addition, Cranmer serves as the athletics department's liaison with the college's Office of Admission.

The Temple City, California, native served as president of the Maryland/DC Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics during the 2019-20 year after being the MACDA president-elect for the 2018-19 year. Additionally, he spent four years on the NCAA Division III Interpretation and Legislation Committee (2016-20) and chaired the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Compliance Directors Committee.

He has also represented the athletics department on the St. Mary's College Staff Senate.

Cranmer first came on board at St. Mary's as the head athletic trainer in December 1999, serving in that role until February 2013.

He went to Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., where he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the men's and women's basketball programs from 1991 to 1993.

After leaving Humboldt State, Cranmer worked for one year at Warren High School in Downey, Calif. He then moved on to work for the Los Angeles Dodgers from July 1994 until his arrival at St. Mary's. During his time with the Dodgers, Cranmer worked with Short Season A in Yakima, Wash.; Long Season A in San Bernardino, Calif.; and Double-A in San Antonio, Texas.

Cranmer currently resides in Leonardtown with his wife, Devonnah.
