VWC Doubles Up on Seahawks

St. Mary's City, Md. - Virginia Wesleyan College pulled out a 4-2 victory Wednesday afternoon in handing the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team their eighth loss of the season.

The Seahawks (7-8) found the back of the net first when senior midfielder Tim Guinan (Germantown, Md./Heights) headed a pass to senior Mikael Tigrett's (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) feet, finishing the feed for a 1-0 lead just 2:15 into the game.

Virginia Wesleyan (13-2) responded at 21:05 when sophomore defender Brian Witt (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) found sophomore forward Clay Price (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) inside the penalty box.

The Marlins, ranked fourth in the NSCAA/NCAA Division III South Region, increased their margin to 2-1 at 32:26 off of freshman midfielder Mike Over's (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg) third goal of the year.  VWC would take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

St. Mary's knotted the contest at 2-2 at 66:53 when senior forward Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) slotted a pass to Tigrett who then flicked the ball just inside the far left post for this team-leading ninth goal of 2007.

Sophomore forward Brandon Massie (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) netted his team-best 14th goal and gave VWC the lead for good when Massie converted Witt's second assist of the game at 66:53.

Massie then assisted on the Marlins' insurance goal with just 1:18 remaining in the game as he crossed in a ball for sophomore midfielder Brian Harris (Hockessin, Del./Wilmington Salesianum) to finish.

The Seahawks held the advantage in both shots (19-17) and corner kicks (6-1).

St. Mary's senior Tim Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) and VWC's junior Zane Krezonis (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) each recorded eight saves.

The Seahawks return to action this Saturday when St. Mary's travels to Newport News, Virginia to take on Christopher Newport University in non-conference at 7:00.
