Boswell Leads SMCM Shutout of Marymount (Va.)

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. - Sophomore forward Kaitlin Boswell (Baltimore, Md./Friends) notched a pair of goals in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout win over Marymount (Va.) University in Capital Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon.

The five goals scored by St. Mary's (5-9-1, 3-3-1 CAC) snapped a four-game scoring drought for the Seahawks, whose last win was a 2-1 victory over Methodist College on September 15.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Erika Kenny (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) started the Hawk scoring as Kenny headed in junior captain Taylor Cervenka's (Damascus, Md./Damascus) cross from the right side of the box at 48:52.

Boswell netted her first of the day at 62:40 when she came streaking into the box and chipped the ball over a diving Lauren Harris (Clifton, Va./Centreville).  Boswell increased the SMCM lead to 3-0 as she tapped in junior Lauren Carrier's (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) cross from the end line.

Freshman defender Taylor Colonna (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) continued the scoring with her second of the year as Colonna put back a rebound off the crossbar at 76:29.  Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Nichols (Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh) netted the final goal at 78:47 when Nichols headed in sophomore defender Sophia Esparza's (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) free kick.

St. Mary's out-shot the visiting Saints, 20-9, while corner kicks were equal at four apiece.  Junior Marie Oben (Glenn Dale, Md./St. Mary's-Annapolis) made seven saves in recording her second shutout of the season.  Marymount's senior goalie tallied eight stops in the loss.

The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday when St. Mary's hosts Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Wesley College, at 3:30 in Seahawk Stadium.
