St. Mary's City, Md. - Sophomore forward
Kaitlin Boswell (Baltimore, Md./Friends) notched a
pair of goals in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's
soccer team to a 5-0 shutout win over Marymount (Va.) University in
Capital Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon.
The five goals scored by St. Mary's (5-9-1, 3-3-1 CAC) snapped a
four-game scoring drought for the Seahawks, whose last win was a
2-1 victory over Methodist College on September 15.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Erika
Kenny (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) started the Hawk
scoring as Kenny headed in junior captain Taylor
Cervenka's (Damascus, Md./Damascus) cross from the right
side of the box at 48:52.
Boswell netted her first of the day at 62:40 when she came
streaking into the box and chipped the ball over a diving
Lauren Harris (Clifton, Va./Centreville).
Boswell increased the SMCM lead to 3-0 as she tapped in junior
Lauren Carrier's (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) cross
from the end line.
Freshman defender Taylor Colonna (Kingsville,
Md./Perry Hall) continued the scoring with her second of the year
as Colonna put back a rebound off the crossbar at 76:29.
Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Nichols (Ellicott
City, Md./McDonogh) netted the final goal at 78:47 when Nichols
headed in sophomore defender Sophia Esparza's
(Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) free kick.
St. Mary's out-shot the visiting Saints, 20-9, while corner
kicks were equal at four apiece. Junior Marie
Oben (Glenn Dale, Md./St. Mary's-Annapolis) made seven
saves in recording her second shutout of the season.
Marymount's senior goalie tallied eight stops in the loss.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday when St. Mary's
hosts Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Wesley College, at 3:30
in Seahawk Stadium.
