Tweed Goal Lifts CNU over St. Mary's

Box Score

Newport News, Va. - Brian Tweed scored the would-be game-winner in the 19th minute to lead Christopher Newport University past the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team, 1-0, in non-conference action Saturday night.

Tweed converted a pass from Brock Hughes at 18:07 for what proved to be the only goal that the Captains (11-5) would need to notch their 11th of the season.

CNU out-shot the Seahawks, 14-9, while the corner kicks were even at one apiece.

Matt Tengs made six saves in the shutout win while senior Tim Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) recorded four stops for the Hawks (7-9).

The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday, October 23 when St. Mary's hosts Gallaudet University in Capital Athletic Conference action at 3:00.
