Newport News, Va. - The
Christopher Newport University women's soccer team used a goal in
each half to post a 2-0 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland
on Sunday night in non-conference action.
The Captains (10-5) netted their first goal at 17:15 as
Brittany Revels connected with Stefanie
Brown. CNU would hold on for the 1-0 halftime lead.
Becca Grady recorded an unassisted goal at 74:15 to the
Captains ahead 2-0. St. Mary's (6-10-1) was unable to
capitalize despite boasting four corner kicks to CNU's two.
Dineen Sampson made four stops in the shutout victory
for the Captains. CNU out-shot SMCM 16-6, while corner kicks
were even at four apiece.
Junior Marie Oben (Glenn Dale, Md./St.
Mary's-Annapolis) started the match for the Hawks and made three
saves, giving up the first half goal. Freshman
Elizabeth Benge (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson)
started second half and had one save with one goal allowed.
The Seahawks will return to action Wednesday, October 24 when
St. Mary's travels to Virginia Beach, Virginia to take on No. 8
Virginia Wesleyan College in non-conference action at 4:30.
