St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College
of Maryland volleyball team extended their win streak to six
matches in a row and remained undefeated in Capital Athletic
Conference play with a 3-0 (30-12, 30-25, 30-28) sweep of
conference newcomer, Wesley College, on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks (19-2, 4-0 CAC) dominated the first game as
sophomore Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City,
Md./Centennial) served the game's first nine points before Wesley
got on board. St. Mary's went on to roll to a 30-12 victory.
However, in the second game, the Wolverines (7-8, 1-3 CAC)
jumped out to a 3-0 advantage and led for the majority of the game,
including being up 17-10. St. Mary's regained its composure
and went on a 20-8 run to earn the 30-25 victory.
In the third and final game, the Hawks led the entire game but
Wesley managed to knot the game at 25-25, 26-26, and 28-28 before
back-to-back Wolverine errors gave SMCM the 30-28 win.
Sophomore Katie Ewing (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince
Orchard) led the way with 12 kills, while sophomore Sarah
Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) added 10.
Feldmann and junior Megan Graydon (West
Friendship, Md./Glenelg) combined for 46 assists.
Wesley was led by senior Sonila Doda's
(Garfield, N.J./Garfield) eight kills, while freshman Emily
Brooks (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) collected 13
digs.
The Seahawks are idle until Thursday, October 11 when St. Mary's
travels to Washington, D.C. to face Trinity University in
non-conference action at 7:00. Wesley returns to action
October 10 when the Wolverines host CAC opponent, Gallaudet
University, at 7:00.
