Wood, Jeanes Propel St. Mary's Past Washington (Md.)

Chestertown, Md. - The reigning Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, senior forward Marianne Wood (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) notched two goals and an assist in leading St. Mary's College of Maryland to a 5-2 victory over Washington (Md.) College in non-conference action Tuesday night.

Wood gave St. Mary's a 1-0 lead at 17:34 with an unassisted tally for her seventh goal of the season.  However, the Shorewomen (4-6) knotted the contest at 1-1 just under three minutes later when Danielle Rosato knocked in the rebound from Kristin Bircsak's shot.

Sophomore Amanda Bramble (Easton, Md./Easton) allowed the Seahawks (8-2) to regain a one-goal margin as Bramble converted a feed from senior forward Mary Lyle Jeanes (Orange, Va./Orange County) at 32:56.  Then senior forward Ali Femi (Easton, Md./Easton) connected with Wood for a two-goal cushion heading into halftime.

The two-goal lead was short-lived as Candace Gaull redirected a pass from Megan Rainey to pull Washington within 3-2 at 38:36.

The Hawks doubled up on the Shorewomen 4-2 behind an unassisted goal by Jeanes.  Then Wood sealed the 5-2 win with her team-leading eighth goal of the year with five minutes left in the game.

Senior Emily Richards (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) was tested throughout the game as Richards made 11 stops, including seven in the second half.  Elena Nicholoff collected six saves in the loss.

Washington finished with a 19-14 shot advantage and held a 12-8 margin in penalty corners.

The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday when SMCM travels to Newport News, Virginia to take on their third ranked of 2007 in No. 6 Christopher Newport University in non-conference action at 2:00.
