Box Score

York, Pa. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team's three-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to No. 6 York (Pa.) College in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Andrew Wheeler headed in the game-winner just 54 seconds into the overtime period as Wheeler put the finishing touches on Jon Ports' free kick.

At 19:33, St. Mary's (5-7, 3-3 CAC) scored first as senior forward Alex Pyzik (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) beat a Spartan defender and played the ball to a wide open senior captain Mikael Tigrett (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) in front of the goal who finished for his team-leading sixth goal of the year.  Despite York (12-1, 5-1 CAC) holding a 5-2 shot advantage in the first half, the Seahawks held on for the 1-0 halftime lead.

The Spartans, who are ranked No. 6 in the D3Kicks.com Top 25 and No. 15 in the NSCAA/NCAA Division III Top 25, came out blazing in the second half, out-shooting SMCM 15-4.  The Hawks almost left York with an upset win but a red card awarded to St. Mary's at 81:15 forced them to play a man down and YCP capitalized on the opportunity.  Ports connected on his 10th of the year at 86:26 to force overtime as he put back in Wheeler's rebound.

York finished with a 21-6 shot advantage as well as a 7-2 corner kick margin.

Senior Tim Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) played tough in goal, managing six stops in the loss.  Kyle Marks made just one save for the Spartans.

The Seahawks return to action Wednesday, October 10 when St. Mary's hosts Randolph-Macon College in a non-conference tilt at 4:00 at Seahawk Stadium.
