Box Score

Salisbury, Md. - Three players in double figures helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team rebound from Saturday's loss with a 59-53 victory over host Salisbury University Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action.

Junior forward Allie Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) led all players with a season-high 20 points as the Seahawks (5-1, 2-1 CAC) won by six despite having a 16-point advantage at halftime.

Salisbury (2-6, 0-2 CAC) opened with a 2-0 lead behind Kylie Hall's layup but St. Mary's had no mercy in the first half as the Seahawks rolled to a 21-4 lead at the 12:43-mark and built that lead to 20 on two occasions.  The squad was fueled by a 57.1-field goal percentage in the half, while the Sea Gulls were held in check from three-point range as Salisbury was 0-for-5.

St. Mary's owned a 37-21 halftime lead as Scott finished the first stanza with 12 points and sophomore guard Steph Saint-Aubin (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) added eight and five rebounds.  Salisbury was paced by Monica Merkel's eight points and five caroms.

The Sea Gulls went to work right away in the second half, trailing 45-37 at 10:53 following a 16-8 run sparked by Merkel and capped by Hall.  Salisbury improved its shooting in this period by 10% but the Seahawks were able to keep them at bay despite going 0-for-5 from downtown.

With St. Mary's up 59-47 with 1:44 remaining in the game, Meghan Phillips scored six straight points, including a three-point field goal with two ticks on the clock, to make the final 59-53.

Scott also had a season-best three assists in the win, while Saint-Aubin finished with 16 points and a season-high nine boards.  Senior guard Megan Uglik (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) was the only other Seahawk to score in double-digits with 10 while handing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds.

Merkel ended the night with a double-double on 13 points and 10 boards, while Hall also had a double-double on 11 points and 10 caroms.  Phillips chipped in eight points with six of those coming in the final 1:32 of the game.

Salisbury's next action will be this Saturday when the Sea Gulls host CAC opponent, York (Pa.) College, at 2:00.  The Seahawks will look to win two in a row on Saturday when St. Mary's hosts CAC newcomer, Hood College, at 2:00.
