Washington, D.C. - Senior
midfielder Rowena Conway (Waldorf, Md./Thomas
Stone) and sophomore midfielder Caitlin Nichols
(Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh) each netted two goals as the St.
Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team extended their win
streak to two games with a 10-0 blanking of Gallaudet University in
Capital Athletic Conference action on Thursday afternoon.
St. Mary's (3-3, 2-0 CAC) picked up its second consecutive CAC
victory as seven different players scored en route to a 10-0
halftime advantage.
Junior forward Sarah Grady (Ellicott City,
Md./Mt. Hebron) and sophomore midfielder Lea
Gonzalez (Washington, D.C./The Potomac School) each
finished the game with a goal and an assist apiece.
Freshman Elizabeth Benge (Bethesda, Md./Walter
Johnson) picked up her second shutout in her second start of the
season, having to make only one save. Virginia
Keeler turned away 15 shots for Gallaudet (0-4-1, 0-2 CAC).
The Seahawks return to action Saturday, September 15 when SMCM
hosts reigning USA South Conference champion, Methodist College
(4-0), at noon in non-conference action. The women's match is
the first of Saturday's soccer doubleheader as the Seahawk men will
square off against Wesley College following the conclusion of the
women's game.
