St. Mary's City, Md. - The Elizabethtown
College women's soccer team left Seahawk Stadium with a 3-1 win but
not before giving up their first goal in nine games to St. Mary's
College of Maryland Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Elizabethtown, ranked ninth in the Middle Atlantic Region, came
into today's game having either won or tied its last eight games
with eight consecutive shutouts.
The Blue Jays (8-1-1) put one up on the board at 16:40 when
junior defender Carly Hoskins (Bangor, Pa./Bangor)
converted a penalty kick after being taken down in box by freshman
goalie Elizabeth Benge (Bethesda, Md./Walter
Johnson).
Junior forward Brooke Dotterer (Spring City,
Pa./Owen J. Roberts) gave Elizabethtown a 2-0 advantage just under
five minutes later as Dotterer the ball over Benge's head following
a cross from junior forward Jenna Russo (Florham
Park, N.J./Florham Park). EC took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Russo netted her fourth goal of the season just 29 seconds into
the second half as finished a feed from senior midfielder
Jenny Fromuth (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing).
The Seahawks (4-5) halted Elizabethtown's consecutive shutout
minutes streak at 824 when junior midfielder Katie
Klotz (Bowie, Md./Good Counsel) blasted a shot from about
25 yards out into the top right corner, cutting the Blue Jay lead
to 3-1 with 23 minutes left in the game.
Benge had a pair of saves in the loss for the Hawks, while
junior Angela Freeland (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)
made five saves.
The Seahawks return to action Thursday, September 27 when St.
Mary's travels to Owings Mills, Md. to take Capital Athletic
Conference opponent, Villa Julie College, at 4:00.
Elizabethtown will host FDU-Florham in its next contest on Saturday
at 4:30.
