Seahawk Volleyball Moves to 2-0 in CAC Play

Fredericksburg, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team came out on top in their third straight five-game match as the Seahawks handed the University of Mary Washington a 3-2 (30-19, 27-30, 30-19, 28-30, 15-11) loss in Capital Athletic Conference action Tuesday night.

St. Mary's (14-2, 2-0 CAC) is now 2-1 this season in matches that go to five games.

The Seahawks won the first game 30-19, before Mary Washington (10-7, 0-3 CAC) evened the game score at one with a 30-27 win in the second.  St. Mary's claimed the third game, 30-19, before UMW battled back for a 30-28 win.  SMCM took the fifth game, 15-11, after jumping out to an early 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

Leading the Hawks in the victory were sophomore Katie Ewing (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomore Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) as Ewing notched 12 kills and Gregorini added 11.

Junior Kellie Krouse (Baltimore, Md./Towson) posted 10 digs, nine kills and served up five aces, while sophomore Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had eight digs.  Feldmann and junior Megan Graydon (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg) combined for 41 assists.

Kelley Hueber led the Eagles with a double-double on 17 kills and 15 digs as well as three aces.  Anne Lutkenhaus also recorded a double-double on 13 kills and 16 digs and added 3.0 blocks, while Lindsey Scott dished out 25 assists.

Defensively, Caitlin Oshida collected 21 digs.

The Seahawks return to action on Thursday, September 27 when St. Mary's travels to Washington, D.C. for another CAC match at 7:00 against Gallaudet University.
