Box Score

Washington, D.C. - Gallaudet University's 18-match home win streak was halted Thursday night when St. Mary's College of Maryland came into The Field House and handed the Bison a 3-2 (28-30, 30-24, 30-23, 25-30, 15-9) defeat in Capital Athletic Conference volleyball action.

The Seahawks' (15-2, 3-0 CAC) victory also snapped a five-match losing streak to Gallaudet as well as provided fourth-year head coach Morris Davis his first win against the Bison.  St. Mary's last win was a 3-0 sweep of Gallaudet in 2001.

After an 8-8 tie in the second game, the Hawks pulled away with a 10-2 run to take an 18-10 lead that St. Mary's never relinquished.  Gallaudet came within 22-20 but the Seahawks used an 8-4 spurt to take the game, 30-24.

The third game was a repeat of the second as the Bison led 1-0 to start but St. Mary's jumped out to an 11-4 lead and never looked back for the 30-23 win.

The Hawks overcame a 10-4 deficit in the fourth game to knot it at 15-15 but Gallaudet used a 9-1 run to take a 24-16 and go on to tie the match at two games a piece with a 30-25 win, forcing a deciding game five.

St. Mary's got a strong start to the fifth game with a 7-2 run but the Bison pulled within 10-9 before the Seahawks rallied off five straight points for the match victory.

Three Hawks posted double-digit kills as sophomore Katie Ewing (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) led the way with 14, while sophomore Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and freshman Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) each tallied 10.

Junior Jackie Reid (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) paced the squad defensively with 13 digs, while Gregorini and sophomore Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each had 10.  Junior Becca Tursell (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) notched 13.0 (3 solos, 10 assists) total blocks as well as nine kills.  Feldmann and junior Megan Graydon (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg) combined for 44 assists.

The Seahawks return to action on this Saturday when St. Mary's hosts Bryn Mawr College, Goucher College, and Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) College in a quad match.  SMCM will kick off the day with a match against Bryn Mawr at 10:00 a.m.
