St. Mary's Cruises through Quad Match

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team dominated the quad match that the Seahawks hosted Saturday as SMCM swept all three of their opponents en route to improving to 18-2 on the season.

St. Mary's served up a total of 45 aces over three matches, while setters Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Megan Graydon (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg) combined for 93 assists.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, October 3 when St. Mary's hosts Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action at 7:00.

The Seahawks used scores of 30-15, 30-19, 30-17 to get past Bryn Mawr (8-6) in their first match of the day.  As a team, the Hawks combined for 20 service aces including seven from junior Kellie Krouse (Baltimore, Md./Towson).  Sophomore Jen Lamar (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) tallied nine kills to pace the offense, while freshman Amelia Ettinger (North Potomac, Md./T.S. Wootton) came up with nine digs.

Again, St. Mary's was not really tested in its second match as the Seahawks disposed of the Blue Knights (5-12) 30-13, 30-13, 30-16.  This time, SMCM posted 15 aces and freshman Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) served four of them.  Freshman Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) registered a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage as Kodan nailed 11 kills in 11 attempts with no errors, while Obal and Junior Jackie Reid (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) each had eight digs.

Goucher (10-9) pushed the Seahawks a bit but SMCM still prevailed in three games (30-20, 30-13, 30-26).  Kodan had another stellar match as she notched 10 kills in 17 tries with no errors for a .588 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) totaled 13 digs, while Reid added 12.
