Washington, D.C. - All eight
Seahawk women's basketball players scored, including five who
posted double digits, in St. Mary's College of Maryland's 101-26
drubbing of host Gallaudet University Wednesday night in Capital
Athletic Conference play.
The Seahawks (9-5, 4-3 CAC) broke the 100-point mark for the
first time since the 1995-96 season when St. Mary's notched 113 in
a lopsided 113-12 victory over Villa Julie College on February 5,
1996.
Sophomore guard Steph Saint-Aubin (Bowie,
Md./Elizabeth Seton) led the onslaught with a game-high 27 points
as Saint-Aubin only missed a pair of field goals, going 10-for-12
from the field. She was perfect from the charity stripe with
a 6-for-6 effort. Saint-Aubin also hauled in seven rebounds.
The Seahawks put in a solid effort all-around as St. Mary's shot
52.8% (38-72) from the field, including connecting on 9-of-13
(69.2%) from downtown. Junior forward Kiely
Murphy (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) commanded the long-range
firing as Murphy went 5-for-7 from behind the three-point line to
finish with 15 points.
St. Mary's owned a 47-14 lead at halftime behind 14 points from
Saint-Aubin and 10 from senior guard Megan Uglik
(Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore). Sophomore forward
Brittainy Payne (Pine Hill, N.J./New Jersey School
for the Deaf) paced Gallaudet (1-11, 0-7 CAC) with six points and
eight boards at intermission.
The Bison (1-11, 0-7 CAC) committed 20 first-half turnovers to
the Seahawks' four. Gallaudet went on to finish the game with
31, while St. Mary's had nine in 40 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Seahawks shot a blistering 61.3%
(19-31), made all three three-pointers attempted and went 13-for-14
from the free throw line.
SMCM's freshman guard Jamie Roberts (Rockville,
Md./The Barrie School) poured in a season-high 16 points in 25
minutes of action off the bench. Roberts was 5-of-12 and went
6-for-6 at the free throw line., helping the Seahawks to a 16-of-17
(94.1%) performance at the line.
Uglik ended the night with 15 points, six assists, and a
career-high six steals, while junior forward Allie
Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) added a dozen. Senior
forward Lisa Daciek (Laurel, Md./Atholton) grabbed
a season-high 10 caroms as the Seahawks posted a 45-31
rebounding margin.
Payne finished with a double-double for the Bison with 11 points
and a game-high 11 rebounds.
St. Mary's returns to action this coming Monday when the
Seahawks host Johns Hopkins University in non-conference action at
3:00. Gallaudet will face York (Pa.) College at York in CAC
play this Saturday at 4:00.
