St. Mary's City, Md. - The Marymount (Va.)
University women's basketball team shot 51.0% from the field,
including an impressive 61.1% in the second half, to post a
decisive 68-49 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland
Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action.
Standing at second in the league standings, Marymount (16-2, 9-1
CAC) outrebounded the Seahawks nearly 2:1 as the Saints finished
the game with a 43 to 29 rebounding margin.
Marymount's sophomore forward Kathleen Brown
(Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), the CAC's leading scorer at 20.2
points per game, led all players with a double-double on game-highs
of 23 points and 13 rebounds. Brown only missed one shot in
34 minutes of action as she went 9-of-10 from the field.
St. Mary's (12-7, 5-5 CAC) was hindered by poor shooting,
especially in the first half when the Seahawks connected on only
seven of 31 attempts. The Saints led by as many as 18 in the
first 20 minutes and cruised to a 32-16 halftime advantage.
At intermission, Brown and the reigning CAC Player-of-the-Week,
sophomore guard Terell White (Ashburn, Va./Stone
Bridge) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, to pace all
players. White went on to end the contest with 18 points and
three assists.
Senior guard Megan Uglik (Mt. Airy,
Md./Linganore) was the bright spot for St. Mary's in the second
half as Uglik notched 14 second-half points to finish the night
with a game-high 23 points - just one point shy of tying her
career-best effort. She also dished out a game-best four
assists.
The Saint defense held the CAC's second-leading scorer,
sophomore guard Steph Saint-Aubin (Bowie,
Md./Elizabeth Seton), to only seven points. However,
Saint-Aubin got it done on the defensive end with a career-high
eight steals to bring her league-leading total to 68.
The Seahawks will look to return to their winning ways this
Saturday when St. Mary's entertains CAC rival, Salisbury
University, at 2:00.
