St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College
of Maryland volleyball team remained undefeated in Capital Athletic
Conference (CAC) play as the Seahawks tallied a 3-1 (25-8, 31-33,
25-20, 25-21) victory over league rival, Gallaudet University,
Wednesday night.
Three Seahawks finished with double digit kills as sophomore
outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood)
had a match-high 16; junior outside hitter Katie
Ewing (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) added 15; and
senior middle blocker Becca Tursell (Ellicott
City, Md./Glenelg) contributed 10.
Kodan ended the night with a double-double as
she also tallied 12 digs, while junior setter Jenn
Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) also recorded a
double-double with match-highs of 30 assists and 20 digs.
Senior setter Megan Graydon picked up a
double-double as well with 17 assists and 13 digs.
St. Mary's (17-2, 4-0 CAC) rolled to an 11-0 start in the first
set and never looked back as juniors Sarah
Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Jen
Lamar (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) and
Ewing notched three kills apiece in the 25-8
victory. Feldmann served up three aces as
she provided service for the first 11 points of the set.
The Bison (8-13, 2-3 CAC) came back with a 33-31 triumph in the
second set to knot the match at 1-1. Outside hitter
Amanda Krieger (Carmel, Ind./Indiana School f/t
Deaf) paced the team in the win with six kills, while
Ludmilla Mounty-Weinstock (Takoma Park, Md./Model
Secondary School f/t Deaf) chipped in four.
The Seahawks rebounded in the third set with a 25-20 victory as
Kodan rattled off five kills and
Tursell added three. Lamar
helped out with three service aces.
In the final set, Kodan put up eight kills in
helping the Seahawks post a 25-21 win.
Both Krieger and outside hitter Justine
Jeter (Nobelsville, Ind./Indiana School f/t Deaf) paced
Gallaudet with 10 kills each, while setter Paige
Johnson (N. Richland Hills, Texas/Texas School f/t Deaf)
boasted a double-double with a match-high 30 assists and 14 digs.
St. Mary's will return to action this weekend at the Ducks
Invitational hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology on Oct. 3-4
in Hoboken, N.J. The Seahawks will take on Cortland in their
first match on Friday at 6:00 followed by a match-up with Montclair
State at 8:00.
