St. Mary's City, Md. - Sophomore midfielder
Adam Good (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area)
tallied his first goal of the season just 1:46 into the start of
the second half for what proved to be the game-winner as No. 2 York
College of Pennsylvania notched a 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference
road victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon
under overcast skies.
Good was in the right spot at the right time as
he collected a misplaced clear and fired it just inside the far
post into the lower left corner past a diving freshman Dan
Gressang (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara).
York (17-0, 7-0 CAC) finished the afternoon outshooting the
Seahawks, 22-5, and posting a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
St. Mary's (5-8-4, 3-3-2 CAC) brought its 'A' game to the
pitch as the Seahawks hung tough with YCP in the first half,
limiting the Spartans to just five shots and one corner kick.
Gressang, who went on to finish the match with
eight saves, made seven second-half stops, including several
diving, fingertip saves to keep St. Mary's within reach the whole
game.
Senior Kyle Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), who
is ranked No. 1 in Division III in goals against average, notched
his seventh shutout of the season with four saves made.
The game also marked the final regular-season home game for
seniors Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, Md./St.
John's College [D.C.]), Justin Dohn
(Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Ben Gould
(Walkersville, Md./Walkersville), Peter
Krech (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown), and
Chris Madrigal (Dunkirk, Md./Northern). The
senior class is 17-10-4 all-time during the CAC regular-season.
In the past four seasons, the Seahawks are 32-34-7 overall
and made back-to-back appearances in the CAC semifinals in 2005 and
2006.
St. Mary's returns to action next Tuesday, October 28 when the
Seahawks take on Virginia Wesleyan College on the road in Norfolk,
Va. for a non-conference match at 7:00.
