Virginia Beach, Va. - The
Virginia Wesleyan College men's soccer team used three goals in
each half to post a 6-1 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland
in non-conference action Tuesday night.
The Marlins (9-6-1) owned a 3-0 halftime lead behind two goals
and an assist from sophomore midfielder Justin
Naramore (Newport News, Va./Yorktown Tabb).
Naramore picked up his first goal of the day
just 3:10 into the start of the game as freshman midfielder
Kevin Maslyn (Centreville, Va./Centreville)
crossed the ball and Naramore took a close shot in
the right corner.
Naramore struck again just six minutes later
when junior forward Clay Price (Springfield,
Va./West Springfield) sent in another cross and this time,
Naramore took a close shot in the left corner.
Junior forward Brandon Massie (Chesapeake,
Va./Hickory), who also finished the evening with two goals and an
assist, netted the third goal of the first half at 28:35 as
Massie put back a rebound from a
Naramore shot.
Sophomore midfielder Harrison Myrdal (Virginia
Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) started the scoring in the second half
at 49:48 as Myrdal converted a pass from
Massie. Massie then notched
his second of the day at 57:23.
The Seahawks (5-9-4) avoided the shutout in the 66th minute when
freshman forward Chris Quamina (Glen Burnie,
Md./Mount Saint Joseph) scored his team-leading sixth goal off an
assist from fellow classmate Matt Grady
(Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson).
Senior defender Bryan Hutchinson (Lowry,
Va./Forest Jefferson Forest) added the game's final goal at 76:21
as Hutchinson took a feed from
Myrdal.
VWC outshot St. Mary's, 29-10, and had a 4-0 advantage in corner
kicks, while the Marlin goalies combined for four saves.
Freshman Dan Gressang (Bowie, Md./Bishop
McNamara) picked up seven stops in 57 minutes of action, while
sophomore Paul Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland
Mills) had one save and one goal against in 32 minutes.
