St. Mary's City, Md. - Sophomore forward
T.L. Tutor (Islesboro, Maine/Gould Academy) found
the back of the net twice and helped on another in leading the
University of Mary Washington to a 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference
win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team
Wednesday afternoon.
Mary Washington (3-2-1, 1-0 CAC) carried a 2-0 advantage into
halftime following a pair from Tutor.
Tutor notched his first goal of the contest just
over two minutes into the start of the game as he corralled a lob
pass from senior midfielder Tommy DiNuzzo
(Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) in the left side of the box and took
a point blank shot pass sophomore Paul Spranklin
(Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) as Spranklin came
out.
Tutor's next tally came on a similar play at
25:20, but this time it was left to right. Freshman
midfielder Bram Sims (Boston, Va./Culpeper) sent
in a free kick from 30 yards out into the right side of the box
where Tutor fired in a shot into the high left
corner.
Senior forward Benard Agyingi (Baltimore,
Md./Dunbar) put the Seahawks (2-3-1, 1-1 CAC) within one at 53:52
as Agyingi dribbled past the Eagle defense and
slotted it past junior Emmett Rutkowski (Culpeper,
Va./Culpeper).
The Eagles tacked on the insurance marker at 86:10 as
Tutor flicked the ball with his head to the far
left post where freshman midfielder Robby Davis
(Locust Grove, Va./James Monroe), who had just subbed in moments
before, was waiting to tip it in.
Mary Washington posted a 17-14 shot advantage, while corner
kicks were even at two apiece.
Spranklin collected three saves in the loss,
while Rutkowski finished with four as well.
It doesn't get any easier for the Seahawks as St. Mary's hosts
third-ranked Messiah College this Saturday, September 20 at 3:00 in
Seahawk Stadium. Messiah, who is tops in the NSCAA Middle
Atlantic Region, brings a 4-0-1 record into Saturday's action.
