Gettysburg, Pa. - The St.
Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team has now won 11 straight
matches as the Seahawks (12-1) notched a 3-0 victory over Bryn Mawr
College and a 3-2 triumph against Gettysburg College Saturday
afternoon in a non-conference tri-match hosted by Gettysburg.
Junior outside hitter Katie Ewing
(Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) paced the Seahawks in their 3-0
(25-7, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of Bryn Mawr with six kills and a .462
attack percentage, while junior outside hitter Sarah
Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) contributed five
kills.
Senior libero Jackie Reid (Poolesville,
Md./Poolesville) picked up 13 digs, while junior setter
Jenn Feldmann (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial)
dished out 11 assists and served up six aces.
For Bryn Mawr (7-5), freshman middle hitter Katie
Merrill (Sierra Madre, Calif./Pasadena) tallied six kills,
while freshman Emily Takeuchi-Miller (Tucson,
Ariz./Green Fields CDS) notched seven digs.
In the Seahawks' five-game win over host Gettysburg,
Gregorini and senior middle blocker Becca
Tursell (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg) both registered
double-digit kills as Gregorini had a dozen and
Tursell chipped in 10.
Ewing posted a .450 attack percentage on nine
kills in 20 attempts with no errors.
Gregorini ended the match with a double-double
as she also picked up 14 digs, while Reid had 13
and sophomore outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney,
Md./Sherwood) denied 10 kill attempts.
Tursell recorded eight total blocks on three block
solos and five assists, while Ewing finished with
seven total blocks (1 solo, 6 assists).
Senior setter Megan Graydon (West Friendship,
Md./Glenelg) and Feldmann combined for 40 assists.
Freshman outside hitter Virginia Hogan
(Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) led Gettysburg (7-6) with a
match-high 16 kills, while junior setter Amanda
Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) added match highs
of 28 assists and 15 digs.
St. Mary's will be back in action next Thursday, September 25
when the Seahawks host the University of Mary Washington in Capital
Athletic Conference action at 7:00 in the ARC Arena.
