Bridgewater, Va. - The St.
Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team left the campus of
Bridgewater (Va.) College with a 1-1 draw after a 110 minutes of
non-conference action Wednesday evening.
For Bridgewater, this was the Eagles' third straight tie as BC
moved to 3-3-3 on the season.
Senior Chris Thomas (Bowie, Md./Spalding)
helped the Eagles take an early 1-0 lead at 7:35 after cleaning up
a rebound following senior forward Ivan Barisic's
(Croatia) shot which bounced of the post.
Bridgewater maintained the 1-0 advantage for the majority of the
match until sophomore midfielder George Gusack
(College Park, Md./DeMatha) found the back of the net with his
first tally of the season at 79:10 to knot the contest at 1 all.
Shots were even during the two, 10-minute overtime periods as
both sides generated three shots; however, the Eagles finished with
a slight 15-14 margin in total shots. St. Mary's racked up
nine corner kicks to BC's three.
Freshman Dan Gressang (Bowie, Md./Bishop
McNamara) had another strong game in goal for the Seahawks as
Gressang registered five saves, while senior
Zane Lineberry (Pulaski, Va./Pulaski) made four
stops.
St. Mary's will return to action this Saturday, September 27
when the Seahawks entertain Stevenson University in Capital
Athletic Conference action at 2:00.
