forward Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, Mass./Bourne)
struck twice in leading the Johns Hopkins University men's soccer
team to a 3-1 triumph over St. Mary's College of Maryland in
non-conference action Wednesday night.
St. Mary's (1-1-1) put one on the board first at 20:10 when
junior forward Misha Simon (Silver Spring,
Md./Good Counsel) headed sophomore defender Kevin
Seeger's (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) 40-yard free kick
into the upper left corner.
Bukoski knotted the game at 1-1 at 32:18 when
he tipped in at the near post sophomore forward David
Drake's (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) pass from the right end
line.
Senior defender Ethan Mulligan (Kearny,
N.J./Kearny) fired in a free kick from 70 yards out that just
sailed over sophomore goalie Paul Spranklin's
(Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) head to give JHU a 2-1 advantage at
69:21.
Bukoski then tacked on an insurance goal at
77:31 as he caused a turnover inside the box and chipped it past
Spranklin. Spranklin ended
the night with six saves.
The Blue Jays (2-1) rattled off 20 shots to SMCM's nine, while
the Hawks edged JHU in corner kicks, 4-3.
Junior Ravi Gill (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro)
also had six stops for JHU.
The Seahawks are on the road again for their next contest as St.
Mary's will make the trek to Pennsylvania to face No. 24 Swarthmore
College at 7:00 in non-conference action. The Garnet is
currently 1-0-1 on the season after shutting out Skidmore College,
5-0, and tying Richard Stockton College, 0-0 at their own Garnet
Alumni Classic.
