Westminster, Md. - Four
different Seahawks scored in helping the St. Mary's College of
Maryland women's soccer team post a 4-0 shutout road victory over
non-conference opponent, McDaniel College, Wednesday afternoon.
Senior defender Katie Klotz (Bowie, Md./Good
Counsel) netted the game-winner at 21:30 following an SMCM free
kick. Junior defender Karisa Carroll (Long
Island, N.Y./Ward Melville) sent a free kick into the box where
freshman midfielder Bridget McGovern (Wrentham,
Mass./King Philip Regional) touched it into Klotz.
The Seahawks carried a 2-0 lead into halftime behind an
unassisted goal by senior forward Lauren Carrier
(Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) at 42:54.
Carrier finished a solo run by taking a shot just
two yards outside the box.
McGovern gave St. Mary's a 3-0 cushion at 80:24
when she took a thru ball from freshman forward Allison
Ahdieh (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove).
Carrier then assisted on the Hawks' final goal
as she pushed in a ball to junior forward Meghan
Anderson (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) who put it past
junior goalkeeper Leanne Hollinger (Westminster,
Md./Winter Mills).
St. Mary's outshot the Green Terror, 22-6, and took a 3-0
advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Marie Oben (Glenn Dale, Md./St. Mary's,
Annapolis) registered her second shutout of the year as
Oben made five stops.
Hollinger finished the afternoon with nine
saves and one goal against for McDaniel.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, September 6
when St. Mary's travels to Gettysburg, Pa. to take on Gettysburg
College at 4:00 in non-conference play. Gettysburg is
currently ranked 10th in the Middle Atlantic region.
McDaniel will face Frostburg State University on the road on
Saturday at noon.
