St. Mary's City, Md. - Freshman forward
Tori Eskay (Damascus, Md./Urbana) matched her
season-high with two goals Tuesday afternoon as St. Mary's College
of Maryland notched a 3-0 shutout of Marymount (Va.) University in
Capital Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
The Seahawks (6-8-1, 4-2-1 CAC) broke the scoreless draw in the
25th minute as senior defender Karisa Carroll
(Long Island, N.Y./Ward Melville) slotted a pass through two
Marymount defenders which Eskay picked up the ball
in the box and chipped in a shot into the top left corner.
Five first-half saves by freshman Gaby Prellezo
(Coral Gables, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes) kept St. Mary's in check
and the Saints (0-13, 0-6 CAC) remained just one goal down at
halftime.
Eskay found the back of the net once again at
60:29 as she corralled the ball in the open field and then dribbled
past a couple Marymount defenders, beating
Prellezo to the left.
Senior forward Erika Kenny (Severna Park,
Md./Severna Park) gave the home team a three-goal cushion at 88:41
as senior defender Tessa Searle (Olney,
Md./Sherwood) sent in a corner kick which junior midfielder
Taylor Colonna (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall)
flicked to the far right post where Kenny was
waiting to tap it in.
St. Mary's rattled off 24 shots to the Saints' 10, while the
Seahawks dominated corner kicks, 10 to 4.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace
Koplow (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) recorded
her first career shutout, making four saves.
Prellezo finished the afternoon with nine stops
as Marymount remains winless on the 2009 campaign. The
Saints' last win was an 8-0 shutout of Gallaudet University on
October 30, 2008.
The Seahawks will look to carry this momentum into this
Saturday's key Capital Athletic Conference match-up with Salisbury
University at 3:00 pm. Prior to the start of Saturday's
contest, St. Mary's will recognize its seven seniors.
