Seahawks Suffer Setback in Conference Finale

Box Score

York, Pa. - Three goals in each half paced York (Pa.) College to a 6-0 shutout of St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday afternoon as the two squads wrapped up Capital Athletic Conference action.  Senior Travis Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Twp.) notched two goals while senior Jon Ports (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) dished out two assists in pacing the Spartans.

The Spartans (12-1-4, 5-0-2 CAC) jumped on the visitors in the 18th minute as junior forward Mike O'Connell (Bowie, Md./Spalding) put the sliding finishes on a slip from Ports on the end line who received the initial pass from senior Justin Suchoski (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy).  YCP followed with a second goal just 43 seconds later as Williams tallied a high finish in the front off an assist from Ports on the left end line.

Freshman Antonia Bua (Lancaster, Pa./Laupeter-Strasburg) notched the third goal of the first half at 40:22 as Bua corralled a long ball from sophomore midfielder Eric Mackin (Moyock, N.C./Currituck County) at the top of the box on the right side and then placed his shot to the far left.

Williams converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for his second tally of the afternoon.  Junior midfielder Lucas Emil (Parsippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) shoots and scores at 80:31 after collecting the ball 30 yards from goal and then slipping past two defenders.  Sophomore Seth Hurley (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown West) netted his first goal of the season to cap the Spartan scoring with five seconds remaining in the game as Hurley blasted in a left-footed shot following a YCP shot and rebound.

St. Mary's mustered just five shots but only sophomore forward Chris Quamina's (Glen Burnie, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) shot was on frame.

York notched 25 shots with 14 being on goal while the Spartans posted an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.

Senior Ryan Hock (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) and sophomore Kyle Connolly (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) combined for the Spartans' 10th shutout of the season as Hock made in one save in 75:25.

Juniors Paul Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Matt Savopoulos (Scaggsville, Md./Reservoir) combined for eight stops in the loss.

The Seahawks will bring the 2009 campaign to a close next Tuesday, October 27 when St. Mary's makes the trip to Winchester, Va. for non-conference action against Shenandoah University under the lights at 7:00 pm.
