York, Pa. - Three goals in
each half paced York (Pa.) College to a 6-0 shutout of St. Mary's
College of Maryland Saturday afternoon as the two squads wrapped up
Capital Athletic Conference action. Senior Travis
Williams (Springfield, Pa./Springfield Twp.) notched two
goals while senior Jon Ports
(Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) dished out two assists in pacing the
Spartans.
The Spartans (12-1-4, 5-0-2 CAC) jumped on the visitors in the
18th minute as junior forward Mike O'Connell
(Bowie, Md./Spalding) put the sliding finishes on a slip from
Ports on the end line who received the initial
pass from senior Justin Suchoski (Langhorne,
Pa./Neshaminy). YCP followed with a second goal just 43
seconds later as Williams tallied a high finish in
the front off an assist from Ports on the left end
line.
Freshman Antonia Bua (Lancaster,
Pa./Laupeter-Strasburg) notched the third goal of the first half at
40:22 as Bua corralled a long ball from sophomore
midfielder Eric Mackin (Moyock, N.C./Currituck
County) at the top of the box on the right side and then placed his
shot to the far left.
Williams converted a penalty kick in the 73rd
minute for his second tally of the afternoon. Junior
midfielder Lucas Emil (Parsippany, N.J./Morris
Catholic) shoots and scores at 80:31 after collecting the ball 30
yards from goal and then slipping past two defenders.
Sophomore Seth Hurley (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown
West) netted his first goal of the season to cap the Spartan
scoring with five seconds remaining in the game as
Hurley blasted in a left-footed shot following a
YCP shot and rebound.
St. Mary's mustered just five shots but only sophomore forward
Chris Quamina's (Glen Burnie, Md./Mount Saint
Joseph) shot was on frame.
York notched 25 shots with 14 being on goal while the Spartans
posted an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.
Senior Ryan Hock (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood)
and sophomore Kyle Connolly (Stratham,
N.H./Exeter) combined for the Spartans' 10th shutout of the season
as Hock made in one save in 75:25.
Juniors Paul Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland
Mills) and Matt Savopoulos (Scaggsville,
Md./Reservoir) combined for eight stops in the loss.
The Seahawks will bring the 2009 campaign to a close next
Tuesday, October 27 when St. Mary's makes the trip to Winchester,
Va. for non-conference action against Shenandoah University under
the lights at 7:00 pm.
