St. Mary's Falls Short in Season Finale

Box Score

Winchester, Va. - Despite dominating the match from start to finish, St. Mary's College of Maryland was unable to end its 2009 campaign on a high note as Shenandoah University edged the Seahawks, 1-0, Tuesday night in the season finale.

Even though St. Mary's (4-13) outshot the Hornets, six to two, neither squad found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes.

Following a scoreless first half, Shenandoah (4-9-2) finally broke through the Seahawk defense at 48:46.  Junior midfielder Kyle Farrell (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson) converted a feed from senior Karim Kamara (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) for the would-be game-winner.

After the Hornets scored, St. Mary's released a flurry of shots in a three-minute span but senior goalkeeper Arman Bozorgmanesh (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) was up to the challenge and denied all three attempts.  The Seahawks other two shots went wide of the goal.

St. Mary's finished with an 11-7 margin in shots after shots were dead-even in the second half.  The Seahawks also doubled up on Shenandoah in corner kicks, four to two.

Bozorgmanesh finished the night with five saves for his third shutout of the season.

Junior Paul Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) made only one stop in the loss.
