St. Mary's City, Md. - St. Mary's College of
Maryland finished fourth at its own Fifth Annual Seahawk
Invitational as the Seahawks (18-13) dropped a five-set decision to
No. 23 Eastern University while being swept by Washington & Lee
University in their final match of the regular-season.
Salisbury University captured the Fifth Annual Seahawk
Invitational as the Sea Gulls posted an undefeated 4-0 record and
lost only one set in 13 played. Eastern also finished with a
4-0 mark but dropped four sets in 16 played for second at the
Invitational.

The first two sets of this match witnessed 21 tie scores
and seven lead changes as St. Mary's claimed the first set 25-22
and Eastern (27-4) took the second one, 26-24. The Eagles won
back-to-back sets, capturing the third with a 25-16 score while the
Seahawks stayed alive with a 25-20 win in the fourth. Eastern
rolled out to a 4-0 lead in the deciding set en route to a 15-8
victory for its eighth consecutive match victory.
Senior middle blocker Jen Lamar (Collegeville,
Pa./Spring-Ford) paced the Seahawks with a career effort as
Lamar tallied 17 kills while adding three block
assists and two digs. Junior outside hitter Claire
Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) also nabbed 17 kills along
with 20 digs, two service aces, and two block assists.
Senior outside hitter Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott
City, Md./Centennial) led the defensive effort with a season-high
26 digs while contributing eight kills. Junior setter
Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) registered her
13th double-double on 50 assists and 14 digs as well as three aces.
Freshman libero Cecilia Blanc (Laytonsville,
Md./Poolesville) notched 19 digs while freshman Dani
Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) had 16.
Washington
& Lee 3, St. Mary's 0 (Box Score)
Washington & Lee seized the opportunity to snap its
two-match losing skid against an exhausted Seahawk quad, sweeping
the host with scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-17.
Kodan tallied eight kills and 10 digs in
leading St. Mary's in the loss while Gregorini
chipped in five kills and seven digs and Obal
dished out 16 assists.
With the regular-season now completed, the Seahawks will focus
on the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament which begins
on Tuesday, November 3 with first round action. As the fifth
seed, St. Mary's will be on the road for the first round, traveling
to Pennsylvania to take on fourth-seeded York College at 7:00 pm.
