defender Julia Puzak (Arnold, Md./Broadneck),
sophomore midfielder Samantha Locke (Bethesda,
Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and freshman forward Lauriann
Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) each tallied a goal and an
assist in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey
team to a season-opening 4-0 blanking of Stevenson University
Tuesday night. Tonight's contest was also the Capital
Athletic Conference opener for both squads.
The Seahawks (1-0, 1-0 CAC) notched a 1-0 lead at 11:15 as
Parker finished off a cross in front of the cage
from Puzak for her first collegiate goal.
Freshman forward Ali McIntosh (Stevensville,
Md./Kent Island) gave St. Mary's a 2-0 halftime advantage as
McIntosh completed Parker's cross
from outside the circle at 29:09 as she tallied her first
collegiate goal as well.
Locke and Puzak traded spots
in the second half as Puzak scored off an assist
from Locke on a penalty corner at 55:31.
Locke added the finishing touch at 63:59 as she
redirected a loose ball in front.
Stevenson (0-1, 0-1 CAC) was held to just three second-half
shots as St. Mary's finished the contest with a 22-3 shot
advantage. The Seahawks also dominated penalty corners with a
15-1 margin.
Junior goalie Emma Lauhoff (Wayne, Pa./Radnor)
made just one save en route to her first shutout of 2009.
Junior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton, Md./Arundel)
notched 12 saves with three goals allowed in 63 minutes, while
sophomore Megan Sadowski (Fallston, Md./Fallston)
made one stop and gave up one goal in seven minutes.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, September 5
when St. Mary's travels to Salisbury, Md. to face 14-time defending
CAC champion, No. 6 Salisbury University.
