St. Mary's City, Md. - Juniors Brooke
Tadlock (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Kori
Isken (Montchanin, Del./St. Mark's) scored within six
minutes of each other in the second half to preserve Wesley
College's unblemished record as the Wolverines notched a 2-0 win
over St. Mary's College of Maryland in Capital Athletic Conference
field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
This was Wesley's (5-0, 1-0 CAC) first victory over the Seahawks
(2-2, 1-2 CAC) in six meetings since the two teams' first meeting
on October 26, 2004. St. Mary's had captured the previous
five contests before today's Wolverine win.
Tadlock notched an unassisted goal at 39:56 as
she dribbled in between two defenders and then reverse-swept the
ball into the lower right corner. Isken
followed suit six minutes later as she deflected in freshman
Hannah Wilson's (Dover, Del./Dover) cross into the
right corner.
St. Mary's (2-2, 1-2 CAC) brought heavy pressure in the second
half but junior goalie Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook,
Pa./Twin Valley) stood up to the challenge as
Johnson registered nine saves in 63:49.
Freshmen Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas
More) and Elizabeth Groom (Bear, Del./Hodgson
Vo-Tech) combined for one save in the final 5:41.
Sophomore Caitlin Cromer (Halethorpe, Md./Seton
Keough) made her first career start for the Seahawks, picking up
two saves.
St. Mary's will return to action next Wednesday, September 16
when the Seahawks host the University of Mary Washington in another
Capital Athletic Conference tilt at 4:00 p.m.
Wesley will travel to Rosemont College for its next contest on
Tuesday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m.
