Seahawks Take Both at Tri-Match

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team ran its win streak to six straight as the Seahawks (7-4) notched victories over Goucher College and DeSales University in a non-conference tri-match Saturday afternoon.

DeSales (5-6) defeated Goucher (6-4) by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17).

The Seahawks snapped Goucher's six-match win streak with a 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-17, 19-25, 16-14) in their first match of the day.  Junior outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) paced the offensive charge for St. Mary's as Kodan equaled a match-best with 21 kills and served up two aces.  On the defensive side of the ball, she notched a match-high 24 digs and one block assist.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Gregorini (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) contributed with her fifth double-double of the season on 15 kills and 16 digs as well as two aces, while sophomore middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) added 13 kills, one block solo and one block assist.

Junior setter Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) recorded her fourth double-double on 54 assists and 14 digs along with four kills and three aces.  Freshmen Cecilia Blanc (Laytonsville, Md./Poolesville) and Dani Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) combined for 28 digs with Blanc picking up 18.

Three Seahawks notched double-doubles as the St. Mary's registered a 3-1 (25-20, 27-29, 25-21, 25-22) win over DeSales behind 18 kills and 19 digs from KodanBlanc provided the defensive spark as she registered a season-best 21 digs.

Hlavinka tallied a .387 attack percentage on 17 kills in 31 attempts with only five errors.  She also had three digs and one block solo.  Gregorini notched 12 kills and one block solo to aid the home team offense, while picking up 16 digs on defense.

Senior middle blocker Jen Lamar (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) recorded 11 kills, one block solo, one block assist and one dig, while Obal dished out 57 assists and grabbed 13 digs as well as four kills and one block assist.  Thorne had her second straight match with double-digit digs as she chipped in 11.

The Seahawks will return to action this coming Tuesday, September 22 as St. Mary's will travel to Pennsylvania to take on York College in a Capital Athletic Conference match at 7:00 p.m.

Goucher will host Washington (Md.) College for its next match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

DeSales will entertain Delaware Valley College in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
