St. Mary's City, Md. - All eight players of the
St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team scored as
the Seahawks snapped their six-game losing skid with a dominating
74-59 victory over Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon in
Capital Athletic Conference action. Four players reached
double figures in handing the third-place Bison their third league
setback of the season.
Senior guard Stephanie Saint-Aubin (Bowie,
Md./Elizabeth Seton) tallied a game-high 20 points in leading St.
Mary's (3-11, 2-4 CAC) while junior guard Megan
Seeman (Frederick, Md./Linganore) poured in a career-high
19 on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-4 effort from the
charity stripe.
Junior forward Jamie Roberts (Rockville,
Md./Barrie) contributed to the Seahawk offense as well with 13
while freshman forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena,
Md./Chesapeake) added a solid effort with a season-high 12
points. Freshman guard Jasmine Jones
(Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) dished out a game- and season-high
10 assists.
Gallaudet's (9-5, 4-3 CAC) slow start proved to be detrimental
as St. Mary's jumped out with a 15-0 start and never looked
back. The Seahawks twice lead by 19 in the half and shot
44.4% from the floor en route to a 35-23 halftime advantage while
the trio of Saint-Aubin, Seeman
and Roberts combined for 24 first-half points.
Junior center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg,
Calif./Pittsburg), the reigning CAC Player of the Week, notched 13
second-half points and 11 first-half rebounds for the Bison,
finishing the afternoon with 20 points and 20 boards. Seventh
in Division III in steals per game, Faafiti picked
up a game-high four steals. Freshman guard Ann
Whited (Fishers, Ind./Indiana School for the Deaf) chipped
in 11 points while junior center Nukeitra Hayes
(Anderson, Ind./Indiana School for the Deaf) had 10 points, six
caroms, four steals and two blocks.
Whited's three-pointer at 13:04 of the second
half helped Gallaudet close the gap to 47-39 but that would be the
closest the Bison would achieve as the Seahawks used a 13-0 run to
boast their biggest lead of the game, a 21-point margin at
9:53. St. Mary's finished shooting 50.0% for the game after
claiming 55.6% in the final 20 minutes.
St. Mary's capitalized on the Bison's 29 turnovers with 32
points while Gallaudet claimed the rebounding battle, 40-30, behind
Faafiti's 20 rebounds.
The Seahawks will return to action on Martin Luther King Day as
St. Mary's travels to York, Pennsylvania to face York College in a
conference tilt at 6:00 pm.
