Salisbury, Md. - Salisbury University deflated
St. Mary's College of Maryland's 19-point advantage in the second
half and sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover,
Md./Duval) capped the comeback with a jumper in the waning seconds
of the game, helping the Sea Gulls post a 56-55 come-from-behind
Capital Athletic Conference win and snap a nine-game losing streak.
Down 37-18 with 18:24 remaining in the game, Salisbury (6-10,
3-6 CAC) mounted a 24-11 rally to close the 19-point gap to six at
5:41 as junior guard Chante' McKinney
(Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) ignited and capped the run.
Senior guard Stephanie Saint-Aubin (Bowie,
Md./Elizabeth Seton) put St. Mary's back up by eight with her
lay-up at 4:35 before sophomore guard KC Curran
(Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) tallied five points in a 9-1 spurt that
tied up the game at 52-52 with 1:41 left.
Junior guard Megan Seeman (Frederick,
Md./Linganore) and freshman forward Taylor
Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) combined to return the
lead to the Seahawks, 56-55, at 00:25, setting up the scenario for
Charlton's heroics. With this afternoon's
win, Salisbury sweeps the season series with the Seahawks as SU
notched a 64-59 road win on December 9.
Curran paced the Sea Gulls with 14 points on
four three-pointers while McKinney added a dozen
and five rebounds. Senior forward Kylie Hall
(Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) hauled in a game-high 11 boards while
chipping seven points.
The Seahawks (5-12, 4-5 CAC) cruised to a 34-18 halftime lead
behind 17 first-half points from Seeman and 40.0%
shooting from the floor, including 4-of-6 from downtown, while
defensively, St. Mary's held the Sea Gulls to 7-of-28
shooting. Seeman scored eight straight
points to help the visitors stake a 10-8 lead at 13:54 - a lead the
Seahawks didn't relinquish for the remainder of the half.
Seeman finished the afternoon with a game- and
career-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting while
Saint-Aubin added 15 and nine rebounds.
Junior forward Jamie Roberts (Rockville,
Md./Barrie) contributed 10 points and eight boards.
The Seahawks will look to get back in the win column next
Wednesday, January 27 as St. Mary's welcomes No. 11 Marymount (Va.)
University to the ARC Arena for a conference match-up at 6:00
pm. Marymount captured their first meeting on December 2 by a
score of 59-50 as three Seahawks reached double figures.
