Salisbury Outlasts St. Mary's for One-Point Win

Box Score

Salisbury, Md. - Salisbury University deflated St. Mary's College of Maryland's 19-point advantage in the second half and sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover, Md./Duval) capped the comeback with a jumper in the waning seconds of the game, helping the Sea Gulls post a 56-55 come-from-behind Capital Athletic Conference win and snap a nine-game losing streak.

Down 37-18 with 18:24 remaining in the game, Salisbury (6-10, 3-6 CAC) mounted a 24-11 rally to close the 19-point gap to six at 5:41 as junior guard Chante' McKinney (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) ignited and capped the run.

Senior guard Stephanie Saint-Aubin (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) put St. Mary's back up by eight with her lay-up at 4:35 before sophomore guard KC Curran (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) tallied five points in a 9-1 spurt that tied up the game at 52-52 with 1:41 left.

Junior guard Megan Seeman (Frederick, Md./Linganore) and freshman forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) combined to return the lead to the Seahawks, 56-55, at 00:25, setting up the scenario for Charlton's heroics.  With this afternoon's win, Salisbury sweeps the season series with the Seahawks as SU notched a 64-59 road win on December 9.

Curran paced the Sea Gulls with 14 points on four three-pointers while McKinney added a dozen and five rebounds.  Senior forward Kylie Hall (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) hauled in a game-high 11 boards while chipping seven points.

The Seahawks (5-12, 4-5 CAC) cruised to a 34-18 halftime lead behind 17 first-half points from Seeman and 40.0% shooting from the floor, including 4-of-6 from downtown, while defensively, St. Mary's held the Sea Gulls to 7-of-28 shooting.  Seeman scored eight straight points to help the visitors stake a 10-8 lead at 13:54 - a lead the Seahawks didn't relinquish for the remainder of the half.

Seeman finished the afternoon with a game- and career-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting while Saint-Aubin added 15 and nine rebounds.  Junior forward Jamie Roberts (Rockville, Md./Barrie) contributed 10 points and eight boards.

The Seahawks will look to get back in the win column next Wednesday, January 27 as St. Mary's welcomes No. 11 Marymount (Va.) University to the ARC Arena for a conference match-up at 6:00 pm.  Marymount captured their first meeting on December 2 by a score of 59-50 as three Seahawks reached double figures.
