St. Mary's City, Md. – Sophomore
forward Kim LaBarge (Gambrills, Md./South River)
found the back of the net twice in leading the St. Mary's
College of Maryland women's soccer team to a dominating 5-0
Capital Athletic Conference victory over Marymount (Va.) University
Wednesday afternoon in sloppy, wet conditions.
The victory secured the Seahawks' (5-6-2, 5-2 CAC) spot in
the 2010 CAC Women's Soccer Tournament which begins October
30 with first round action. St. Mary's is now in a
three-way tie for second with Frostburg State University and
Salisbury University.
Joining LaBarge with a productive day were
sophomore forward Tori Eskay (Damascus,
Md./Urbana) and first-year midfielder Yvonne
Latour (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) as the duo each
tallied a goal and an assist.
St. Mary's notched four of its five goals in the first
half, scoring three of them in a 2:19-minute span.
LaBarge started the scoring at 7:21 with an
unassisted goal as she ripped a shot top shelf from the right side
of the box.
Latour sparked the three-goal flurry at 18:40
as she collected a slot pass from Eskay and
finished with a shot just inside the near post.
Eskay took her turn next at 19:26, dribbling past
three defenders and sophomore Gaby Prellezo (Coral
Gables, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes) before tapping it across the goal
line. LaBarge wrapped the first half with
her second of the day at 20:59 as she knocked in
Latour's 30-yard pass.
Sophomore midfielder Carly Harmon (Davisburg,
Mich./Holly) notched the Seahawks final tally of the contest in the
second half as Harmon chipped in a shot that went
off Prellezo's fingertips. First-year
midfielder Johanna Rambo (Hollywood,
Md./Leonardtown) assisted on the play.
St. Mary's outshot Marymount (4-9, 2-5 CAC) by a 20-12
margin while edging the Saints, 4-3, in corner kicks.
First-years Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton,
Md./Hereford) and Shelby Perkins (Forest Hill,
Md./Notre Dame Prep) combined for six saves and the team's
fourth shutout of the season.
Prellezo finished with seven stops in the
loss.
St. Mary's will wrap up conference play this Saturday,
October 23 at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg,
Virginia. Kick off is 1:00 pm.
