Fredericksburg, Va. – Sophomore forward Brooke Masimore (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) notched the game-winning goal with 1:14 remaining in regulation to break open a scoreless draw and hand University of Mary Washington a 1-0 loss in the final Capital Athletic Conference field hockey contest of the season.

With the victory, St. Mary's College of Maryland (11-4, 6-1 CAC) secured the No. 2 seed in the 2010 CAC Field Hockey Tournament which begins Halloween Sunday with first round action.  As the No. 2 seed, the Seahawks earn a first-round bye and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, November 3.

Their finish as the second-place team in the conference standings marks the third time in program history that the Seahawks have garnered the No. 2 seed.

Following a scoreless first half, Masimore tallied her second score of the season at 68:46 off an assist by sophomore midfielder Natalie Hackstaff (Denver, Colo./St. Mary's Academy).

Senior goalkeeper Lydia Garcia (Bowie, Md./Seton) and the Seahawk defense stood their ground as Garcia turned away two shots and the defense killed 19 penalty corners.  Senior defender Blair Lusby (Pocomoke, Md./Holly Grove Christian) came up with three defensive saves as well.

Mary Washington (10-7, 5-2 CAC) finished the contest outshooting the visitors, 9-3, and posting a 19-4 margin in penalty corners.

The Seahawks will return to action tomorrow when they welcome No. 11 Lynchburg College to Seahawk Stadium for non-conference action at 2:00 pm, wrapping up the regular-season.

Prior to the start of tomorrow's contest, the team's three seniors, GarciaLusby and midfielder Allie Skiest (Arnold, Md./Seton Keough), will be recognized for their years of service to the Seahawk field hockey program.
