St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team picked up a pair of victories to open up their Sixth Annual Seahawk Invitational Friday night.  The Seahawks posted a sweep of Bridgewater (Va.) College before recording a four-set win over Division II University of District of Columbia.

St. Mary's (22-7) experienced smooth sailing in its 25-15, 25-23, 25-17 triumph over Bridgewater (15-14) as junior middle blocker Gena Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) led the Seahawks in the win with 10 kills.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) tallied 13 digs while adding seven kills and three aces.  Senior setter Katie Obal (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and sophomore Cecilia Blanc (Laytonsville, Md./Poolesville) also notched double-digit digs with 11 and 10, respectively.

Obal finished the match with her eighth double-double of the year as she dished 33 assist to aid the Seahawk offense.

Three Seahawks were in double-figure kills with Kodan's 15 leading the way as St. Mary's shook off UDC 25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20 in its second match of the evening.

Kodan was stellar on the defense as well with her ninth double-double of the season, adding 20 digs to her stat line.

Hlavinka and first-year Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Obal put down her second double-double effort of the evening with 45 assists and 13 digs while first-year libero Bianca Livioco (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) denied 16 Firebird attacking attempts and Blanc also had double-digit digs with 13.

St. Mary's will return to action tomorrow for the final day of the Seahawk Invitational.  The Seahawks will take on Virginia Wesleyan College and Division II Davis & Elkins College at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, respectively.
