St. Mary's City, Md. – Sporting their red, white and blue bandannas in honor of 9/11, the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team kept their undefeated run intact, opening up Capital Athletic Conference action a 3-2 victory over York (Pa.) College Saturday afternoon.

After the Seahawks (4-0, 1-0 CAC) squandered a 2-0 lead, sophomore forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) notched the eventual game-winning goal with 1:11 remaining in regulation.  Parker collected her team-leading sixth goal of the season and second of the day as she went one-on-one with senior goalie Maggie Schlauch (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland), running horizontal past Schlauch and flicking the ball over Schlauch's left hand into the right side of the cage.

St. Mary's finished with an 18-10 shot advantage while York posted an 11-5 margin in penalty corners.

The Seahawks took an early 1-0 lead at 4:45 as junior forward Susan Smith (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) poked in a loose ball at the near post.  St. Mary's carried that 1-0 margin into halftime despite outshooting York, 10-1, in the first half.

Parker made it a 2-0 contest at 44:42 as she fired in a hard shot on the run into the far lower left corner.

York (2-3, 1-1 CAC) avoided the shutout at 57:40 when senior forward Katie Dawkins' (Easton, Md./Easton) shot ricocheted off the far post for her second tally of the season.  First-year midfielder Jillian Brezgel (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) then made it interesting at 62:24, evening up the score as she deflected in junior defender Colleen O'Rourke's (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) diagonal pass.

Senior Lydia Garcia (Bowie, Md./Seton) picked up the win for the Seahawks with three saves while Schlauch finished with eight stops.

St. Mary's will return to action on Wednesday, September 15 when they travel to Owings Mills to take on league foe, Stevenson University, at 7:00 pm.
