hitter Claire Kodan
(Olney, Md./Sherwood) posted 33 kills and 24 digs as the St. Mary's
College of Maryland volleyball team rebounded from last night's
loss at Franklin & Marshall College with wins over Goucher
College and DeSales University Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (6-4) opened up the day with a 3-1 triumph over
Goucher (2-6) behind 14 kills, a career-best five aces, and nine
digs from Kodan. St. Mary's dropped the
first set, 21-25, before coming back strong in the next three sets
(25-10, 25-18, 25-19). Junior middle blocker Gena
Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) helped out
offensively with nine kills while first-year outside hitter
Jenna
Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) provided a
defensive stop with 11 digs.
Kodan registered her first double-double of the
season with season-highs of 19 kills and 15 digs while serving up
two aces in leading the Seahawks to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory
over host DeSales (6-4).
Kodan led a group of three Seahawks in
double-digit kills as well as junior outside hitter Shannon
Fitzpatrick (Germantown, Md./St. John's College
[D.C.]) picked up 15 while Hlavinka added 14 kills
and three solo blocks.
Defensively, first-year libero Bianca
Livioco (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) tallied
10 digs against DeSales. Senior setter Katie Obal
(Olney, Md./Sherwood) just missed a double-double with 52 assists
and nine digs.
The Seahawks will carry their two-match win streak into their
Capital Athletic Conference match against Marymount (Va.)
University in Arlington on Wednesday, September 22.
