Bridgewater, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Bateman (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) ripped a shot from about 10 yards out into the back left corner of the cage to lift host Bridgewater (Va.) College to a 2-1 overtime non-conference win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team Sunday afternoon.

Bateman netted the game-winning goal with 3:51 remaining in the first 15-miunte extra period, halting St. Mary's win streak at six games.  St. Mary's, who was ranked 20th in the September 13 edition of the www.womensfieldhockey.com weekly poll, enters Tuesday's non-conference match-up with Washington (Md.) College with a 6-1 record.  Designated as Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day, the game starts at 4:00 pm in Seahawk Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half which saw the Seahawks outshooting Bridgewater, 8-1, and holding a 6-3 margin in penalty corners, it was BC's senior forward Brianna Jacques (Orange, Va./Orange) who tallied the game's first goal off a penalty corner at 42:44.  Junior defender Megan Bach (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) and sophomore midfielder Joan Burleson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) assisted on the play.

St. Mary's evened up the game at 51:22 as sophomore forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) notched her team-leading 11th goal of the season to send the game into overtime.

The Eagles (5-2) scored on their only shot in overtime for the win.

St. Mary's controlled the tempo of the game, finishing with an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 16-6 margin in corners.

Senior Lydia Garcia (Bowie, Md./Seton) made two saves in the Seahawks' first loss of the season while junior Taylor Waddell (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) had nine saves in the victory.
