Straub, Seahawks Sweep Hood

Box Score

Frederick, Md. – First-year setter Elaina Straub (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) put forth a solid effort in helping the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team to a 3-0 decision over her older sister's squad, Hood College, in Capital Athletic Conference action Tuesday night.

Straub dished 33 assists, had nine digs, served up four aces and added two kills as the Seahawks (11-5, 2-1 CAC) notched their third straight victory and Straub got the best of her sister, Kristina, a senior outside hitter for Hood.

St. Mary's outlasted a pesky Blazer squad for a 25-20 win in the first set but then easily recorded 25-14, 25-9 victories in the next two sets.

Senior outside hitter Claire Kodan (Olney, Md./Sherwood) paced the offense with 10 kills while chipping in five kills.  First-year middle blocker Trish Kallis (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) contributed eight kills and two aces while junior outside hitter Shannon Fitzpatrick (Germantown, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) had five kills, four digs, and two service aces.

The Seahawks continue league action on Thursday, September 30 as they host CAC rival, York (Pa.) College, at 7:00 pm.
