Box Score vs. N.C. Wesleyan
Ashland, Va. – The St. Mary's College of
Maryland volleyball team kicked off the 2010 campaign with a split
at Saturday's tri-match hosted by Randolph-Macon College. The
Seahawks (1-1) rebounded with a 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-15, 20-25,
15-12) victory over N.C. Wesleyan College after dropping a 3-0
(17-25, 16-25, 12-25) decision to the host in their opening
match.
Senior outside hitter Claire Kodan
(Olney, Md./Sherwood) and junior middle blocker Gena
Hlavinka (Gaithersburg, Md./T.S. Wootton) paced the
Seahawk offense Saturday as the duo combined for 40 kills.
Both notched six kills against Randolph-Macon (3-0) while
Kodan tallied 15 kills and 5.0 total blocks in the
five-set win over N.C. Wesleyan.
First-year middle blocker Trish Kallis
(Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had a strong start to her career,
leading the team in blocks with two block solos and eight block
assists while adding 11 kills.
Defensively, first-year libero Bianca
Livioco (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg)
recorded 20 digs, including 11 against N.C. Wesleyan (0-3).
The Seahawks will return to action this weekend,
Friday-Saturday, September 10-11 as St. Mary's travels to
Montclair, N.J. to compete in the Montclair State University
Classic. The Seahawks will face SUNY Cortland and Penn State
University-Altoona on Friday at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm,
respectively.
