Wesley Edges Seahawk Men's Soccer

Dover, Del. – Senior forward Misha Simon (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) netted the equalizer in the 56th minute but Wesley College notched the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute and the Wolverines handed the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team a 2-1 setback in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday evening.

Wesley (6-4-5, 2-1-4 CAC) garnered a 1-0 lead early in the first half as senior midfielder Michael Monticchio (Middletown, Del./Middletown) converted a penalty kick at 13:57.  Sophomore goalkeeper Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) made four first-half saves to keep the Seahawks within one goal at halftime.

The 1-0 Wolverine lead stood until 55:57 when Simon scored from 10 yards out after dodging a defender to put St. Mary's (6-8, 2-4 CAC) on the board.  Wesley responded less than eight minutes later as senior midfielder Kyle Long (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye) headed a pass towards junior forward Joshua Chelleh (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) who tapped it in for the eventual game-winner.

The Wolverines edged St. Mary's, 16-12, in shots while the Seahawks posted a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.

Brown finished the night with seven saves.

St. Mary's returns to action on Wednesday, October 19 when the Seahawks welcome No. 17 Salisbury University to Seahawk Stadium for a Capital Athletic Conference match at 3:30 pm.
