St. Mary's Field Hockey Season Comes to a Close

York, Pa. – The 2011 campaign came to an end on Sunday afternoon for the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team as the fifth-seeded Seahawks suffered a 3-0 setback at No. 4 seed York College of Pennsylvania in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship Tournament.  St. Mary's wraps up this season with a 6-11 record, including a 4-3 mark in league action.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ana Wash (Yorktown, Va./York) collected a career-best 13 saves in the loss as Wash faced 32 shots in 70 minutes.  The Seahawk defense also diffused 18 York penalty corners, including 14 alone in the second half.

The Spartans (11-8) held St. Mary's to just two first half shots while posting a 2-0 halftime lead on YCP goals at 9:20 and 22:42 by sophomore forwards Kailey Brewer (Hartly, Del./Smyrna) and Madi Wilt (Harwood, Md./Kent Island), respectively.

The St. Mary's offense awoke in the second stanza with eight shots (six on goal) and five penalty corners but sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Curtis (Easthampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) turned away the Seahawk attempts.

St. Mary's finished the contest with 10 shots and seven penalty corners as junior forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) paced the team with five shots.
